The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Moving Your Body

Finding the motivation to move when you’d rather do literally anything else.

Let’s reframe how we talk about movement, because the current fitness landscape is exhausting. If your social media feed looks anything like mine, you are constantly bombarded by people waking up at 5:00 AM to drink green juice and put on a matching set. They subject themselves to workouts that look remarkably like military hazing, preaching about pushing past limits and “crushing” goals.

But honestly? Some days, the only thing I want to crush is a bag of chips while watching reality TV.

When you force yourself to do a workout you actively despise, your brain treats it like a punishment. No wonder you lack the motivation to get out of bed when the reward is an hour of sweaty misery. The secret to moving your body when you are a certified lazy girl isn’t about building insane willpower. It is about lowering the stakes completely and realizing that movement counts even if it doesn’t happen in a gym.

You need to give yourself permission to only do things you actually want to do.

If you hate running, stop running. If weights make you feel bored out of your mind, put them down. The human body does not care if you are doing a high-intensity interval circuit or if you are just pacing around your living room while gossiping on the phone with your best friend for forty-five minutes. Both count. Both get your blood flowing and your brain clear.

We need to decouple movement from the idea of perfection. Sometimes, moving your body looks like blasting your favorite childhood playlist and dancing like an absolute lunatic in front of your bedroom mirror while you wait for your hair mask to rinse out.

Sometimes it looks like a slow, aimless walk around the neighborhood just to look at people’s dogs and get a pastry.

Movement should feel like a relief, not another chore on your already overflowing to-do list.

The next time you feel that heavy wave of guilt telling you that you should be active, ignore the fitness influencers. Strip away all the rules about what a proper workout is supposed to look like.

Ask yourself what would actually feel good in this exact moment, and do that instead. Even if it’s just stretching on the rug like a cat while your coffee brews, you’re doing great.
